Now that the Server and DataStore have been established, it's time to install the ArcGIS Portal. The ArcGIS Portal is a mapcentric content management system that enables your organization to deploy the portal concept of the web GIS pattern within its own infrastructure. It's essentially a framework for managing your GIS content while promoting collaboration between users within your organization.

To accomplish this, open "Portal for ArcGIS" from the ArcGIS application in the Start Menu. Once open, click "Create a New Portal" and run through your ArcGIS account details, creating login credentials (that should match the ones you created for ArcGIS Server to avoid confusion). Now move on to the Web Adapter for Portal Install to configure it with the newly-created Portal using the Admin Account created in ArcGIS Server.

Steps to Install ArcGIS Portal

To install the setup files, run the install executable for Portal for ArcGIS.

Once the setup files are installed the next step is to install Portal for ArcGIS. Navigate to where you installed the setup files (see previous screenshot if you are unsure).

The install will prompt you with a wizard, which is where you may specify properties as desired. In this example we used the default settings.

The screen shot below shows the AD “Service Account”, which is a User account that is responsible for running the ArcGIS enterprise software.

Once installed, you will need to authorize the Portal for ArcGIS. This can be done either by downloading the license files from my.esri.com or using the authorization codes from my.esri.com.

Note: Portal for ArcGIS will have two authorization codes, one for Level 1 users and another for Level two users. See screenshot below.

Once the authorization is complete, you should see this screen indicating all is verified.

Note it will redirect you to the domain computer name, don’t worry this is normal, Portal for ArcGIS needs a fully qualified domain to be configured.

Now that everything is licensed, you can create the portal site. The best way to get to the creation site is to go to .
